A week ago, I was privileged to go with my work co-horts and attend the Homer Garden Tours. Our gracious employers took us to be inspired! The area of Homer just in itself is pretty breathtaking. Homer sits at a tip of land facing Katchemak Bay with glacier-filled mountains on one side and snow-capped volcanoes on the other. Even on a cloudy, drizzly day it is a fabulous place to be. Homer also has its own flavor, if you know what I mean. Let's just say that its not strange to think that the singer, Jewell came from here. There is an abundance of dreadlocks, fair skin, and legs that have not seen razors! O.K., I don't really know about the last one, but it's a fun, artistic place to visit!
So, back to the tours, we were treated with fair weather for the most part and could view many of the landscapes with their intended views. It certainly sets the scene. There were some very lovely gardens!
Despite the sunless summer we seem to be having, the flowers are doing marvelously well. Perennials, that is! (Those are the ones that come back every year!) I came away with some serious "stone-envy."
Strangely, I think this was my favorite! I really love sculpture, and not the usual "garden art" kind. This is a beautiful composition of what is naturally prevalent and put together in such a perfect shape. As most things that non-artists don't understand, I kept hearing "I could do that!" when I knew very well that it was harder than it looked! Still, I may have to start collecting bits of drifwood...
